THE LAY-PERSONS GUIDE TO CANNABIS & CANCER

In 2018 alone, nearly 2 billion people will be diagnosed with cancer in THe us.

With all the talk about it, how many of us even know what and how cancer functions?

Cancer is a disease characterized by an uncontrolled division of cells and their ability to spread—this growth is what a tumor’s are made of, and the inability to regulate these growths is how cancer spreads.

From prostate, to lung, to breast, to pancreatic, skin, etc., the inability to not control this cell division can happen anywhere in/on our bodies. And it seems that with the passing years, our bodies are becoming less and less able to naturally inhibit this cell division, thus contributing to the incessant plague of diagnosis’.

While scientists, doctors, and other, more qualified people discuss the reason why our bodies are more and more susceptible to cancer, I’m more concerned with how we can fight it! And the first step was to educate myself on the layman’s, or basics of cancer, which I am now sharing with you.

We hear all the time the messy, scary parts of cancer, which we absolutely should—because it’s terrifying and wreaks havoc on every part of a human, and those that love them. What we aren’t hearing enough of, are the healing properties of one of our most ancient medicines, especially in treating many cancers.

In addition to the many systems you’re more familiar with, our bodies also naturally have an endocannabinoid system. Cannabinoids are the group of chemicals naturally found in the Cannabis plant.

We also have cannabinoid receptors (another word for receivers) naturally occurring in our bodies. They’re called CB1 and CB2.

CB1 is found in our brain, while CB2 is found in our reproductive systems (both female and male), as well as all throughout our immune system, most saturated in the spleen.

People have been actively researching cannabis and it’s medicinal remedies since 1975. Yet people have been using cannabis without the research available to us now since long before that. Humans inherently and consciously self-medicate with the herbs and food we put in our bodies for centuries.

To me, to be conscious of what one is allowing in their body, is to be on the road to supreme healing.

I’ve also learned that in many cases if your body is rich with cannabinoid receptors, cannabinoid treatment will catalyze the regression of tumors and induce apoptosis—apoptosis being the death of harmful cells.

Basically, we need apoptosis to happen so we don’t explode in our own tissue, and in many cases, introducing cannabis has supported this process. There is also evidence that Cannabis is able to specifically target cancerous cells rather than taking over the entire body and killing both healthy and cancerous cells, like chemotherapy does. Cannabis also helps prevent nausea, vomiting and the physical pain.

The more we learn about Cannabis and its health benefits, the faster corporate companies may try to benefit off one of our first medicines. So learn while you can, and be wary when purchasing CBD products online.
